We started our Map Unit today!
First, we read Me on the Map and drew a map of our room. We made a map key for our room. We learned that maps have symbols and you need to have a map key so that you know what the symbols stand for.
Next, we learned about the compass rose. We got to walk around the room with a real compass rose and watch it change directions. Then we made a big compass rose out of construction paper and drew pictures of 4 objects that were located in each direction.
Then, we read Toot and Puddle and used a map to locate the different places Toot traveled. Next week, we are going to compare and contrast the two characters and talk about what continents Toot traveled to.
After that, we talked about our global address (city, county, state, nation, continent, and planet) and completed a project. I will post pictures next week.
Next week, we are going to learn about landforms.

We had a great time learning about landforms. We read books about landforms, watched a BrainPop video on landforms, made a landform flip book, made a landform graham cracker cookie, and worked in collaborative groups to make a landform scene/mural. I will post pictures soon... I can't find my camera cord that plugs into the computer.
In first grade we study landform, we made these flips books to learn about the parts of the land. We also made a landform cookie.
