ABC Shell Match: FREE ON TPT
Some of my summer school students matched the  shells today during reading time. There is a recording sheet!

Octopuses

On Thursday of last week we learned about octopuses. First, we read an octopus book and then filled in the chart...can... have... eat.... Last we made the octopus and made seaweed and wrote our facts.

Sharks

On Wednesday, we learned about sharks. First, I read a shark book. Next, we thought about what sharks have... can... eat...Then we turned our chart into sentences for our shark nonfiction page for our All About Ocean Animals book.

The last shark was made by a child that is learning English.... he is an NEP. The second to last shark the child had trouble keeping up the pace and transfering the words, so I wrote the words with a highlighter to help him.

Seahorses

On Tuesday we learned about seahorses. First we read the morning message and filled in the missing letters and wrote what we knew about seahorses on a sticky note.

Next, I read a book about seahores and the kids told me what they can, have and eat and I wrote it on a chart paper.

Then we turned each column into sentences and wrote the facts down that we learned.

Crabs

The next week of ESOL summer school we read nonfiction books about ocean animals. We read one each day and wrote facts about the animal and made a craft.
CRABS
To start everyday we read our morning message and fill in missing letters and answer the question at the bottem by writng on sticky notes.

We made a crab out of a paper plate and wrote words that rhyme with crab on it.

We made a chart about crabs.... what can they do... what do they have.... and what do they eat...
We used the chart to make sentences/facts about crabs.

We had a great time learning about crabs!!
OCEAN SUMMER SCHOOL UNIT

To start our ocean animal unit we read some fiction books about fish: The Rainbow Fish and Pout Pout Fish. We completed these activites.

We drew the pout pout fish from Denna Jumps unit and wrote about how we feel when we are sad.

Here is another example of pout pout fish and kiss kiss fish. We made connections to the story.

The Rainbow Fish

We also read The Rainbow Fish by: Marcus Phister and made a prediction before we read the story about what we think Rianbow Fish looks like and then we drew what he actually looks like.

We drew our names and made each letter into a rainbow.
